Votes are in! Class officers selected for 2024-25 year

The results for Manteca High’s class elections for the 2024-25 school year were released on March 18, announcing Alejandra Valdovinos as senior class president, Kaylee Oliveira as senior class vice president, Sydney Snyder as senior class secretary, and Joey House as senior class treasurer.

Voting was conducted virtually in second period classroom on March 18. Teachers were requested to play the campaign speeches before the students cast their votes. Campaign speeches can be found on MHS Buff TV, a YouTube channel run by the school’s multimedia and journalism intructor James Burns.

The 24-25 school year welcomes back many familiar leaders, who are overjoyed and want to create more student involvement and memorable experiences for seniors.

Joining the senior class officers are the junior and sophomore officers. Your sophomore class officers: Allyson Thurmon as Treasurer, Leah-Love Hernandez as Secretary, Chloe Martin as vice president, and Paisley Coenenberg was nominated as the president for the upcoming school year. Your junior class officers: Emilia Barajas as secretary, Nina Wilson as vice president, and Tessa King who was elected as president for the 2024 to 25 school year.

The freshman voting process for the student officers consists of an interview with Leadership advisor Stephanie Hjelmsted, paired with the current officers. This interview process will occur soon.

Valdovinos serves as a familiar face for student body, being the current junior class president. She participates in varsity cheer and competes for the varsity track team. Serving as the president, she will be responsible for conducting a monthly meeting, participating in fundraisers, creating posters, and creating a fun environment. Valdovinos has always been adamant about leadership, throughout her middle school and her high school experience. She is dedicated and determined to help her peers.

Valdovinos used various physical and virtual platforms to campaign for herself, to be inclusive, understanding that not everyone has access to social media. On campus, she handed out goodie bags, which had Peeps. Valdovinos is very optimistic for this upcoming school year, sharing briefly some of her goals.

“My top goal for our senior year is to make it memorable, creating long lasting memories,” she said. I have numerous new ideas to prosper for the next school year. I am determined to make it my priority to get all my classmates to attend all school functions.”

Another familiar face is Kaylee Oliviera, the current and upcoming vice president. Oliviera is on varsity cheer and is very active on campus.

As vice president, Oliviera will be tasked with a providing both support and new ideas for our president. She has always been very passionate, wanting to provide encouragement for her fellow classmates to succeed. Oliviera’s plan was to campaign for herself and Valdovinos, to further spread their messages. Posters were posted all over campus, as well as on Instagram.

“My top goals are to encourage more student involvement and make sure that our upcoming senior year is one that is memorable and most importantly fun,” Oliviera said.

Together, both girls helped to campaign for each other. This proves to be successful. Both girls are enthusiastic, and eager to put their plans to action this upcoming school year.

“I would like to express my gratitude to every individual who has helped and supported me throughout this process,” Valdovinos said. “I assure I will to be the passionate leader you voted for. Go Buffs!”
