Camden Steckler is a prominent member of the Manteca High volleyball team.

At 6-foot-4, Steckler is a middle for the Buffaloes and plays the role well, so significant that he was awarded Valley Oak League MVP of the 2022 season. As a junior, Steckler led Manteca to an undefeated run in the VOL at 10-0 with his team-leading totals for kills (215) and blocks (57).

Since his freshman year, Steckler has played club volleyball. His biggest achievement was earning a bid for nationals and winning Far Westerns this season with his club RAGE.

Steckler is committed to the University of Jamestown located in North Dakota. Jamestown has previously been ranked as one of the best NAIA schools in the nation for volleyball and Steckler hopes to add his talents to the Jimmies squad.

The Tower sat down with Steckler to discuss his talents, defending his team and individual crowns, and what is in store for the future.

The Tower: What are your goals heading into the 2023 season?

Camden Steckler: I want to make a better run in the playoffs this year, if not make a section run and hopefully win it.

TT:  What made Jamestown the school for you?

CS: The facilities there are top notch and I love all the players and coaches I met. It honestly couldn’t have been a better place.

Manteca High senior Camden Steckler helped guide his club team, RAGE, to a nationals bid and Far Westerns championship.

TT: What kind of pressure do you face as the reigning VOL MVP?

CS: It’s a tough challenge because now that people know who you are and that you’re the MVP, everyone is going to be coming for my spot. So, I think it’s good to keep heading forward and focus on myself. … There will be a few hungry athletes, but I welcome the competition here in the VOL.

TT: How do you stay in shape during the offseason?

CS: Going in the gym with the team and getting any reps I can. I’m fortunate enough to have a volleyball net in my yard. I mostly stay in shape with a garage gym; it’s not much but it works.

TT: You led the Buffs in blocks and kills last season. Can we expect the same for 2023?

CS: Yes, that would be a huge goal of mine this season. I base most of my game off efficiency and making good plays for my team.

TT: Do you have a favorite pregame food and a go-to pregame playlist?

CS: Energy drinks. It’s become a ritual for me. Maybe a protein shake, as well. There are a million songs and artists I could go to, but I know for the first game of the season I’ll be playing Chief Keef.
