With paint on their hands and scraps of paper everywhere, the Manteca High formal committee continues to get ready for this year’s fall formal – A Night Under the Stars on Nov. 18.

With the DJ booked, décor set and organized, and more than 130 tickets sold so far, Manteca High Activities Director Stephanie Hjelmstad says planning is going well.

The Manteca High formal committee has been working really hard these past few weeks getting everything ready for this year's formal. Rylie Ward, Danielle Grabowski and Riley Slikker head up the formal committee and they’ve been busy making posters to promote the event with the date, time and theme.

“There’s even going to be actual stars in the gym!” Hjelmstad said with excitement.

In the school’s Leadership class, there are groups for every campus event. The formal committee is comprised of 20 students. Manteca High sophomore Rylie Ward is in charge of the formal committee. She said they don’t have a specific budget for formal. Instead, they have a decorator, Decorations by Janet, who would share their visions and bring them to life.

“She’s also helped with Lathrop and East Union, but we booked her first, so we got her this year,” said Hjelmstad.

This year’s theme, “Night Under the Stars,” was originally an option for the 2022-23 formal. The group liked it enough to bring it back.

“It was one of the options last year,” Ward said, “but it didn’t get picked so I decided to have it this year since everyone really liked it.”

A lot of students are looking forward to going to formal with more than 130 tickets sold.

Sophia Olsen a sophomore, at Manteca High said: “I’m very excited to go this year because my boyfriend asked me with a poster and everything and that made me very excited to go.”

There are plenty of tickets left. The dance will be capped at 375 tickets. This year, students can only buy their tickets online at mantecahighschool.myschoolcenteral.com. You need to get cleared from the office by filling out a form and once your cleared you are good to buy your ticket online. You can’t have more than one F, any U’s, or a 5-day suspension on your record.
