Manteca High School’s Thespian Club is hosting a new fundraiser — Coffeehouse, an event any student at Manteca High can participate in to showcase their special talents.

Manteca High students that want to show off their talents, whether it’s signing, dancing, instruments, acting or poetry, are encouraged to the final auditions on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 13-14. The big performance is Dec. 1.

Ava Dos Reis, vice president of the Thespian Club, said: “This event is to raise funds for the Thespian Club and the theatre department, because we want to have nice things for our future shows.”

Coffeehouse is a new event that brings lots of new opportunities for everyone in hopes to create something fun to bring the students at Manteca High School together.

“(Thespian Club president Lourdes Garay) and I wanted to do more with the club this year because we find that everything becomes stagnant after the haunted house, and then we have the musical, so the club slows down after that period of time,” Dos Reis said. “We really wanted to keep the club busy all year around.”

Make it stand out

The Coffeehouse Audition has added two more dates for those that enjoy the spotlight or the backstage: Nov. 13-14.

Garay held auditions on Nov. 6-7.

On Monday, Nov. 6, the audition invited talented students who wanted to show off their singing, dancing, and instrumental skills. Monday’s auditions where quite slow, though.

“Auditions were a little bare that day,” Garay said, “but the few that did were wonderfully talented.”

The Thespian Club hopes that more talented people will start to join in on the fun. The Thespian Club has extended the auditions, adding Nov. 13-14 dates.

“If you weren’t able to come to auditions this week,” Dos Reis said, “it would be a good time to audition now that we’ve given more time.”

The Thespian Club is also holding sign-ups for backstage crew and waiters and waitresses. Jacob Janssen, secretary of the Thespian Club, said: “We have decided to broaden the range of auditions, so it does just have to be one act or talent it could be anything on both of the days.”
